Role
Community Advisor

Company Description
A residential education program focused on building inclusive living environments, enhancing student engagement, and promoting personal development across the campus community.

My Impact
At Wentworth Institute of Technology, I served as a Community Advisor, supporting a residential community of over 50 students by designing and running social programs that strengthened connections and engagement. I communicated campus resources, policies, and expectations through clear, timely updates to ensure residents stayed informed and supported. Too, I provided one-on-one and group guidance to address resident concerns, contributing to a safer, more inclusive, and supportive living environment.

The Challenge
Wentworth Housing aims to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential environment where students feel supported academically, socially, and personally. With a diverse population of residents and varying needs throughout the semester, clear communication, proactive engagement, and consistent support were essential to building a strong sense of community.

The Solution
The solution focused on building intentional community programming, maintaining clear and accessible communication about campus resources and expectations, and providing support for residents. Through planned events, timely updates, and resident engagement, the residential experience was designed to encourage connection, accountability, and student well-being.

How the Work Was Done
I approached this role by staying highly organized, proactive, and resident-focused. I consistently followed protocols, asked thoughtful questions, and used feedback from my supervisor to improve throughout the semester. I prioritized building relationships with residents through regular outreach, while also handling administrative responsibilities with care and attention to detail. When issues came up, I communicated clearly with supervisors, ensured proper steps were taken, and focused on creating a safe, supportive living environment for the community.

Programming Event Showcase

Hispanic Heritage Month Art Celebration

I organized an art-focused program for Hispanic Heritage Month centered on inclusive excellence and cultural appreciation. Residents created papel picados as a hands-on activity, and the papel picados were strung together and hung in the hallway. Too, a looping slideshow on display showcased Hispanic and Latino artwork—both historical and contemporary—to provide context and encourage conversation. The event offered a welcoming space for residents to engage with culture through creativity and shared experience.

Mario Kart Night

Residents gathered for a friendly Mario Kart tournament that encouraged connection and community building. Participants competed for a LEGO while others cheered on their peers, creating a fun and inclusive environment. The event emphasized respectful gameplay and positive sportsmanship while giving residents an opportunity to interact, relax, and engage with one another.

Halloween Candy Grams

Residents participated in a Halloween Candy Gram program that promoted kindness and community connection. Through an online form, residents were able to request a free candy bag for a friend or random resident, including a positive or encouraging note written by them. I assembled and distributed each candy gram to ensure everyone received one, creating a simple but meaningful opportunity for gratitude, peer support, and shared celebration.
